UPDATE: The story of Lucas Browne has blown up to a WHOLE new level since making this film. Winning a world title, being stripped of said title for a suspicious positive drug sample, being cleared, being found positive again but this time for a over the counter sports drink…all in the space of a few months. It’s a story for a feature film, a film i’d love to make but that’s for another day.
Previously, in a much more simpler time when Lucas was a contender I headed over to Hatton’s gym in manchester with very basic kit of a DSLR and a mic and made a little film:
The heavyweight division is historically known as the ‘glamour division’ of boxing. Nowadays it’s a long way away from Muhammad Ali, George Forman, Mike Tyson and Lennox Lewis. It’s been dominated by the Klitschko brothers who have been blamed for the demise of the division due to a mixture of lack of competition and their own safety first fighting style.
Boxing fans are constantly on the look out for the next possible contender to bring a little spark back. Australia’s Lucas Browne definitely looks the part and with his ferocious punching power he’s a risk for any one. This film gives a rare insight behind the scenes both before and after his fight. In the gym as he winds down his last bit of preparation, in the dressing room as he gets set to fight and the aftermath in the moments he leaves the ring. Many thanks to Lucas & everyone at Hatton Promotions.
This film was transmitted by Box Nation.
A shorter highlight film of day 1 of filming in the gym:
